Dove Hunting with Manuel Airala
Manuel Airala is an American Citizen of Argentine descent
who was educated and lived in Michigan until he moved back to
Argentina 17 years ago.
He
started an Outfitting Company that offers hunters the
opportunity to hunt ducks, dove, perdiz, wild boar, and red
stag. He has exclusive use of several lodges and shares
several other lodges with other Outfitters.
Manuel Airala hunts in the Cordoba Province just north of
the city of Cordoba. He has exclusive use of several large
Estancias that have roosts, waterholes, and/or grain fields
located on them that have exceptional dove hunting. Two of his
main hunting areas have two of the largest dove roosts in the
Cordoba Province located within or next to these properties.
Hunters wishing to go to Cordoba and hunt with Manuel Airala
have several Lodges/Estancias or Hotels where they can stay
and use as a base from which to hunt. Manuel normally chooses
the best location to house the hunters based on the time of
year & crop harvesting schedule which dictates where the birds
are roosting and feeding. He chooses the lodge which is
located as close as possible to where the dove are feeding and
roosting in order to keep the drives to the field as short as
possible.
Manuel will also try to accommodate his clients wishes if
they wish to stay at a certain location. Hosteria Bosada is a
very nice, well-appointed lodge that can accommodate 12
hunters, double occupancy. Manuel has exclusive use of this
lodge when he has clients staying there. Hosteria Bosada is
located in the town of Totoral, which is located approximately
45 minutes north of the town of Cordoba, in the center of the
best dove hunting areas. The drives Totoral to the hunting
areas will be short (20-30 minutes) and the hunters will have
the opportunity to hunt many of the best areas in the Cordoba
Province when based in Totoral. |
The
typical hunting schedule is as follows: On the day of arrival
in Cordoba the hunters will be met at the Cordoba Airport and
then taken to the lodge where they will have a chance to
unpack, eat, and then head to the field for a “half day” of
shooting. Once the afternoon’s shooting is concluded, the
hunters will then return to the lodge for a shower and a drink
before sitting down to a wonderfully prepared Argentine meal.
The next 3 FULL days will be hunting days starting with a
06:00 wake up call, a hardy breakfast, and then a short drive
to the field. . Most drives to the fields are 20-30 minutes.
Hunters will normally shoot 3-4 hours in the morning before
stopping for lunch and then shoot 3-4 more hours in the
afternoon. Hunters can expect to fire between 2-4 cases of
shells a day (1000 – 2000 rounds) at dove.
On the last day hunters will shoot in the morning only and
then return to the lodge to pack, shower, and have lunch
before heading to the Cordoba Airport for their overnight
flight home.
